Case study for UI Design Portfolio Project CustomEats
Process followed for completing the Portfolio Project - CustomEats App :
1- User-centered design | design thinking - design process and the five elements of UX design - empathizing with users, defining their pain points, coming up with ideas for design solutions, creating wireframes and prototypes, and testing your designs with real users to get feedback | equity and accessibility when designing | plan and participate in design sprints | retrospectives | role of research in the design process | empathize with users | benefits and drawbacks of common UX research methods.
2- Empathize with users | build an empathy map | understand user pain points | explore personas | write user stories | identify happy paths and edge cases | discover the benefits of user journey maps | write problem statements and hypothesis statements | consider how accessibility fits into all of this | competitive audit and complete design activities, like How Might We and Crazy Eights .
3- Use research to inform the ideation process | build storyboards and explain how storyboards are used to create wireframes | draw basic elements like shapes and lines |understand information architecture | create paper wireframes | build digital wireframes on a tool called Figma | construct low-fidelity paper prototypes | develop low-fidelity digital prototypes on Figma | apply Gestalt Principles, like similarity, proximity, and common region, to your wireframes | understand how to avoid the effects of deceptive patterns in designs.
4- Conduct research ( the project background, research goals, research questions, key performance indicators, methodology, participants, and the script or questions ) to test your prototype | use the insights to iterate on and improve your low-fidelity designs | plan a research study | conduct research with a usability study | how to reduce bias and be inclusive | analyze and synthesize research results ( gather data and observations in one place, organize the data using an affinity diagram, find themes, and come up with actionable insights ) | share and promote research insights | modify designs based on research insights.
5- Create a static, high-fidelity design that is used as a representation of a final product, called a mockup |Refine the design of your mockups , by adding emphasis, hierarchy, and scale and proportion ( Typography - size -golden ratio etc, Color, Iconography, Grids and containment, Page layout and negative space ) | consider unity and variety | Gestalt Principles, like similarity, proximity, and common region | Understand how to use a design system which is a series of reusable elements that allow teams to design and develop a product following predetermined standards | Sticker sheet in figma | Participate in a critique session where UX designers ask for feedback on their work from teammates | iterate on designs based on that feedback.
