Relicta, a small company based out of Italy was founded by Davide Sanna, Matteo Sanna, Andrea Farina, Mariangela Melino and, Giovanni Conti with their primary aim being to reduce plastic waste being dumped in the oceans which poison the fish whilst adding value to industrial fish waste. In doing so it does not have to cultivate any additional crops, rather utilize and enhance existing fish waste and transform it into a useful resource, taking proactive measures to be more sustainable.
To achieve their objective of reduction of plastic waste a fundamental principle of "one person's waste is another person's treasure", Relicta went on to develop a biodegradable and transparent plastic that is water-soluble and is made from industrial fish waste. Despite it being created from fish, it is entirely transparent and has no odor. Due to the plastic's water solubility, its disposal becomes extremely simple. By pouring some hot water on the plastic, in a matter of seconds, the plastic just dissolves. Even if tossed in cold water, it completely dissolves within 10 days which is still drastically lesser compared to regular plastic that stays on for hundreds of years.
Despite its solubility in water, their plastic is quite resistant to extremely humid environments such as a refrigerator. The plastic retains its integrity when kept in one. It retains its properties for at least 12 months and holds its ground when exposed to rain or direct water jets.
FEATURES
Its water solubility, biodegradability, and compostability in addition to it being transparent, it makes the product extremely flexible and versatile.
It has the ability to be heat sealed. The added bonus of packing things by vacuum sealing it ensures that the product is fresh and pristine.
Despite the plastic's affinity to water by heating it, it can be shrunk. Any size of plastic can thus be reduced to fit a product without any wastage.
