The Einstein equations are a set of coupled, second order non-linear PDEs. In the stationary (time independent) setting a great deal is known about finding explicit solutions in some given symmetry class. I will discuss Weyl solutions and how the problem can be reduced to solving for harmonic functions on R^3. I will then discuss more general solutions for which the problem is equivalent to a harmonic map, and discuss some existence and uniqueness results that arise.
