The generalized surface quasi-geostrophic (gSQG) equations provide a common framework encompassing the two-dimensional Euler, Navier–Stokes, and SQG equations. In this talk, I will introduce this family of models and explore its turbulence properties through ideas from classical two-dimensional turbulence theory. The focus will be on conserved quantities, energy and enstrophy balances, and the relationships between characteristic wavenumbers and cascade behavior, emphasizing the analytical framework and its connection to classical scaling laws. This is a joint work with Mike Jolly, Anuj Kumar, and Vincent Martinez.
