Short Biography
Professor Krzysztof Pielichowski, Head of the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Polymers and Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Circular Economy at the Cracow University of Technology, is an expert in polymer nanotechnology and chemistry, thermal analysis, and flame retardancy, particularly in the fields of polymer nanocomposites based on engineering polymers and hybrid organic–inorganic nanomaterials containing POSS. He is the co-author or editor of nine books and more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, including Thermal Analysis of Polymeric Materials: Methods and Developments, Vols. 1 and 2, Wiley, Weinheim, 2022 (co-edited with K. Pielichowska).
He has received numerous international and national awards, including the Kosciuszko Foundation Fellowship (2000), the Fulbright Fellowship Award (2003), and the Honorary Distinction of the Polish Association of Engineers and Technicians of the Chemical Industry (2018). He has also collaborated with several companies, including ABB and Grupa Azoty S.A. Prof. Pielichowski is Chairman of the Polish Society of Calorimetry and Thermal Analysis and a member of the Council of Scientific Excellence in Poland.

Short Biography
Costas Demetzos is Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).
He serves as Director of the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology and since 2008 he serves as President of the Hellenic Pharmaceutical Society (HPS). His research interest is primarily on Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology, Physical Pharmacy, Nanomedicine, Thermodynamics and Biophysics of nanoplatforms. He has been awarded national and international patents. He teaches in the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Medicine of the NKUA. He has gained awards and honors for his contribution to the science of biomaterials and of pharmaceutical nanotechnology. He has published more than 350 research papers [h index 60), i10-index 210 (google scholar)], six monographs, he has co-authored one book and edited eight books. He has supervised more than 15 PhD students, 40 master’s students and more than 50 undergraduate dissertations. His participation in the European COST programs helped in the mobility of his students and his lab members to Europe. He participates as a member of Scientific Organizing Committees and as a President of International and European scientific Conferences, while being an evaluator in many National and International committees. He was an elected member of the ExCo of EUFEPS (Network Coordinator) (2013-2016). In 2018 he was honored with an award by the Order of Sciences of the Academy of Athens for his scientific achievements in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology. In 2021, he has been elected as an Ordinary member in Class IV-Natural Sciences of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (Academia Scientiarium et Artium Europaea). Since 2023 he acts as Associate Editor of the prestigious International Journal on nanotechnology, Journal of Liposome Research (JLR). In 2025, he was awarded by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with the excellence of the outstanding University teaching of the Faculty of Health Sciences as a distinguished professor.

Fixed bed pyrolysis of waste polymers, a promising technology in material valorization and liquid biofuels production
Short Biography
Saša Papuga holds doctoral degree in Chemical engineering from the University of Banja Luka since 2014. He has been working at the university for more than 22 years, as an assistant, assistant professor, associate professor, and full professor, covering narrow scientific field Process engineering. His professional activities include scientific research in the field of thermochemical processes, with special interests in plastic waste and biomass pyrolysis, modeling and process simulations. He is generaly interested in biofuel processing, waste management, cleaner production, resource efficiency. He is an author of 26 related publications indexed in the Web of Science citation database, outstanding monograph of national importance:“Termochemical processes, pyrolysis an biofuels”, 2 chapters in the international edited books (Springer, Intech), 4 university textbooks, including the textbook: "Environmental protection engineering" as well as the textbook: "Low-polluting technologies and cleaner production", as well as numerous national scientific magazine and conference proceedings papers. He served as guest editor of MDPI’s journal Polymers. In the framework of professional development and scientific research activities, he was invited to be a guest at a number of foreign faculties and scientific research institutes, in Norway, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Greece and Ireland, as well as in the countries of the region.
He holds waste management training certificates from: SWECO, Stockholm, "International Training Program – Solid Waste Management in South East Europe" (September-October 2005, Stockholm and Falun, Sweden); INFORMEST – TABLUM, Project supported by the Italian Government - Training course "Water, wastewater and solid waste management" (March-June 2004); as well as letter of confirmation from University of Kaiserslautern (Germany) for participation the DAAD project “Solid Waste Management” (2000-2003). Also, he holds an UNIDO endorsed CP award for consultants, UNIDO National Cleaner Production (CP) Programme 2015-2016 in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
His professional engagement in the field of waste management includes, among other things, engagement as an expert for waste and the environment: EU CARDS Project "Solving of Medical Waste Problem in the City of Banja Luka - MEDWASTE" (2005-2006); EU RED Project "The integral solving of waste problem from farms and slaughterhouses in NW B&H region - ANIWASTE"(2005); UNDP Project: "Preparation of the Initial National Communication to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – UNFCCC" (2007-2009); UNDP supported development of SEAP "Sustainable Energy Action Plan for City of Banja Luka" (2010); Ministry of Science and Technology of RS (Republic of Srpska) funded Scientific Project "Co-pyrolysis of Waste plastic and Biomass" (2010-2013); Ministry of Science and Technology of RS funded Scientific Research Project “Characterization and application of ash from biomass combustion in heating” (2020-2022); CSF-Croatian Science Foundation funded Scientific project NEOPLAST “Advanced energy carriers in plastic waste recovery” (2019-2022). As part of the EU CARDS project MEDWASTE, as part of the experts team, he carried out several trainings for health workers in the city of Banja Luka on the management and handling of medical waste. He was engaded as Chemical Engeeneging/Training Expert on UNIDO Project “Coordination and Implementation of training and Demonstration activities on resource Efficient and Cleaner production in Bosnia and Herzegovina” (2017). He was engaged as a waste management consultant in the PIT- Project Implementation Team “Regional Landfill Banja Luka - IDA loan” (DEP-OT Regional landfill Banja Luka, March-December 2003). He is the co-author of the document: "Feasibility study of the development of waste sorting facilities of the municipal waste company Čistoća AD", LIR CONSULTING, Banja Luka (2007).

Short Biography
Angelo Lunghi
Graduated in Chemistry from the University of Pavia, he has more than 30 years of experience in Process Safety, Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) management, and the operation of experimental laboratories, holding senior positions at Innovhub SSI and previously at the Fuel Experimental Station.
He is a specialist in risk assessment and consultancy for companies subject to the Seveso Directive and has developed advanced expertise in calorimetric and thermoanalytical techniques — including DSC, TGA, adiabatic calorimetry, and reaction calorimetry — applied to industrial chemical process safety.
A qualified safety trainer, he has also served as a university lecturer for courses on Process Safety. He is the author of numerous international scientific publications. In 2002, he received the Alberto Lucci Award from AICAT in recognition of his innovative contributions to industrial process safety.
He has also served as board member of several organizations affiliated with UNI, as well as of the professional Order of Chemists.
