In fact, I consider this topic so important that we're launching a 10-part series with my colleagues, in which we'll delve deeper into the mysteries of artificial intelligence.

But why is this series so important?

Well, because artificial intelligence is not something that will happen in the distant future, but is already here with us. It's in our phones, on social media, in online shopping, and even doctors use it for diagnosis.

That's why it's essential that we know as much about it as possible. To understand how it works, what its advantages and disadvantages are, and how we can use it for our own benefit.

And what will be the practical benefit for those who join us on this 10-part journey?

Well, firstly, you'll learn the basics of artificial intelligence and understand what this concept really is.

Secondly, you'll acquire the knowledge and skills that will help you effectively use artificial intelligence in your daily life.

Just think about how many opportunities this technology holds! It can help us in our work, in our studies, in our entertainment, and in many other areas.

What is artificial intelligence?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is something similar, except it is not a human, but a computer system. The essence of AI is that machines are able to perform tasks that usually require human intelligence, such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, or even creativity.

And how does it do this? Well, it uses a lot of data, from which it learns patterns and regularities. Based on these, it is able to predict things, solve problems, and do many other exciting things.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is already present in many areas of our lives, and we use it in more and more places. Here are a few examples:

Smart devices: The voice assistant on your phone (Siri, Google Assistant) or the Netflix recommendation system also uses AI. These devices are able to understand your voice, or even give you personalized recommendations.

Transportation: The development of self-driving cars is also based on AI. With the help of AI, these cars are able to perceive their environment and drive safely.

Healthcare: AI can help doctors in diagnosing, or even in developing new drugs. AI is able to analyze patient data and help doctors make the correct diagnosis.

Customer service: With the help of chatbots, AI is able to answer customer questions, or even solve their problems. Chatbots are able to be available 24/7 and quickly answer customer questions.

Education: AI can help students in learning, or even create personalized learning materials. AI is able to analyze students' learning habits and recommend personalized learning materials to them.

How does artificial intelligence work?

In order to understand how artificial intelligence works, we first need to clarify some basic concepts.

Data: AI systems use a lot of data for learning and decision-making. This can be text, images, videos, sounds, or any other format of information. The more and better quality data is available, the better the AI system can learn and make decisions.

Algorithms: Algorithms are instructions that determine how the AI system processes the data and how it makes its decisions. With the help of algorithms, the AI system is able to recognize patterns in the data and make predictions or decisions based on them.

Machine learning: Machine learning is an area of AI where systems are able to learn from data without being explicitly programmed. The operation of artificial intelligence step by step

Learning: Using the data, the AI system learns the rules and patterns necessary to complete the task.

Decision making: Based on what it has learned, the AI system makes decisions, or in other words, performs the task.

Feedback: The AI system continuously monitors the results of its decisions and refines the learning process based on them.

Examples of how artificial intelligence works

Voice recognition: When the voice assistant on your phone (Siri, Google Assistant) hears your voice, it first converts it into digital signals. The AI system then analyzes these signals and recognizes the words you said. Finally, based on the recognized words, the AI system performs the requested task.

Recommendation systems: When you watch movies or videos on Netflix or YouTube, the recommendation system monitors what content you have watched before and recommends new ones based on it. The AI system analyzes your viewing habits and tries to find content that you are likely to enjoy.

Chatbots: When you communicate with a chatbot on a website or in an application, the AI system analyzes the text you enter and tries to understand your question or problem. The AI system then responds to you based on what it has learned, or solves your problem.

Advantages and disadvantages of artificial intelligence

Like all technologies, artificial intelligence has advantages and disadvantages. It is important to be aware of both sides so that we can make responsible decisions about the application of AI.

Advantages

Efficiency: AI systems are able to perform tasks quickly and accurately that would take people a lot of time and energy. For example, an AI system can scan thousands of medical records in seconds and recognize cancer cells, while a doctor would need hours to do this. As a result, AI systems can significantly increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Accuracy: AI systems are able to perform tasks flawlessly in which people often make mistakes. For example, an AI system can accurately recognize faces, even if they have changed over the years. As a result, AI systems can improve quality and reduce the number of errors.

Automation: AI systems are able to automate tasks that are tedious and repetitive for humans. For example, an AI system can automatically answer customer questions, or even automatically drive the car. This allows people to be freed from tedious and repetitive tasks and focus on tasks that require creativity and human interaction.

Innovation: AI systems are able to find new solutions to problems that people have not been able to solve so far. For example, an AI system can develop new drugs, or even discover new energy sources. As a result, AI systems can contribute to scientific progress and the solution of social problems.

Disadvantages

Job losses: Due to the automation of AI systems, many jobs may be lost, especially in sectors where tasks are repetitive and routine. This can cause serious social problems if the loss of jobs is not addressed in a timely and effective manner.

Ethical questions: The decisions of AI systems sometimes raise ethical questions. For example, in the event of an accident, a self-driving car must decide who to protect, the passengers or the pedestrians. These decisions can cause serious ethical dilemmas that have no easy answers.

Data protection: AI systems use a lot of data for learning and decision-making, which raises the issue of data protection. It is important that AI systems handle data securely and do not misuse it.

Dependence: People can become too dependent on AI systems, which can reduce their own abilities and knowledge. It is important that people are not just passive users of AI systems, but actively participate in their development and application.

Ethical and social issues

The development of artificial intelligence raises many ethical and social questions. It is important that we take these questions seriously and make responsible decisions about the application of AI.

Discrimination: AI systems can sometimes make discriminatory decisions, for example, if the data they have learned from contains biases. This can cause serious social problems if discrimination is not addressed in a timely and effective manner.
