So, where do we start? The online space is teeming with opportunities. Take Coursera, for instance, where prestigious universities like Stanford and MIT, and major companies like Google and IBM, offer courses. These courses are often organized into specializations or professional certificates, meaning we can gain in-depth knowledge in a specific area. The good news is that many courses can be audited for free, so we can check out the materials, but if we want a certificate, we'll have to pay. For example, Stanford's 'Machine Learning' course or deeplearning.ai's 'Deep Learning Specialization' are excellent starting points.
edX works similarly, also offering courses from universities and organizations. This platform is based on Open edX, an open-source system. Here, too, there's the option for free auditing, but certification requires payment. For example, Columbia University's 'Artificial Intelligence (AI)' course or IBM's 'Python for Data Science' might be of interest.
Udacity is a bit different, focusing more on developing technological skills. Here, you'll find Nanodegree programs, which provide deeper, more practical training. These programs are usually paid, but they often offer scholarships and discounts. For example, their 'Machine Learning Engineer Nanodegree' or 'Deep Learning Nanodegree' programs are very popular.
Big tech companies also offer their own courses. Google AI, for instance, provides free courses and resources, mainly about Google-developed technologies like TensorFlow. Microsoft's Azure AI platform also offers courses and documentation on Azure AI services. And you can find free learning materials on the Microsoft Learn site.
If someone wants to delve deeper into the subject, pursuing a university degree or specialization is a good idea. Many universities offer artificial intelligence specializations within computer science or engineering programs.
Books and professional literature also play a vital role in learning. For example, Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig's 'Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach' is a comprehensive handbook on AI, Ian Goodfellow, Yoshua Bengio, and Aaron Courville's 'Deep Learning' covers the fundamentals of deep learning, and Sebastian Raschka and Vahid Mirjalili's 'Python Machine Learning' is a practical guide to machine learning in Python.
YouTube channels and online communities are also excellent resources. For example, the 'Two Minute Papers' channel summarizes the latest AI research, and the 'Lex Fridman Podcast' features in-depth interviews with AI researchers and experts. In online communities like Reddit or Stack Overflow, we can ask questions and exchange experiences.
To gain practical knowledge, it's worth participating in practical projects and competitions as well. Kaggle, for example, offers data science competitions where you have to solve problems on real datasets. HackerRank offers programming tasks and competitions that help develop programming skills.
Overall, we have plenty of free and paid opportunities to learn AI. The key is to choose the method that suits us best and start learning.
