Bio

Dr. Sookyung Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Ewha Womans University, specializing in trustworthy and interpretable AI, reinforcement learning (RL), and AI for science. She leads research on interpretable foundation models, RL-based post-training of large language models, and multimodal medical visual question answering (VQA) systems in collaboration with UCSF. She earned her Ph.D. in Computational Materials Science from Georgia Tech and has previously served as a Senior AI Scientist at SRI International and PARC, and as a Machine Learning Staff Scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Her research applies AI to domains such as climate forecasting, molecular property prediction, and scientific equation discovery, with an emphasis on transparency and social impact. In 2025, she is co-organizing a global initiative on AI and gender bias with UN Women. Dr. Kim also served as Program Chair for workshops including DMESS@ICDM and AGU Big Data in Geosciences and was a panel reviewer for the DOE Biological and Environmental Research (BER) program. Through her career in academia, national labs, and global partnerships, she is committed to building responsible AI systems that are inclusive, interpretable, and aligned with human values.

김수경 박사는 이화여자대학교 인공지능학과 조교수로 재직 중이며, 신뢰할 수 있고 해석 가능한 인공지능(AI), 강화학습(RL), 그리고 과학 분야를 위한 AI를 전문으로 연구하고 있다. 그녀는 기초모델의 해석 가능성 향상, 대형 언어 모델의 RL 기반 사후 학습, UCSF와의 협업을 통한 다중모달 의료 시각 질의응답(VQA) 시스템 개발 등의 연구를 이끌고 있다. 

조지아공과대학교(Georgia Tech)에서 계산 재료과학 박사학위를 취득했으며, 이후 SRI International, PARC에서 시니어 AI 과학자로, 로렌스 리버모어 국립연구소에서는 머신러닝 수석 과학자로 근무한 바 있다. 그녀의 연구는 AI를 기후 예측, 분자 특성 예측, 과학 방정식 발견 등 다양한 과학 분야에 적용하며, 특히 투명성과 사회적 영향에 중점을 두고 있다. 

2025년에는 UN Women과 함께 AI와 젠더 편향에 관한 글로벌 이니셔티브를 공동 주관하고 있으며, DMESS@ICDM, AGU Big Data in Geosciences 등의 워크숍에서 프로그램 체어를 맡았고, 미국 에너지부 생물환경연구(BER) 프로그램의 평가위원으로도 활동했다. 학계, 국립 연구소, 국제 협력 현장에서의 폭넓은 경험을 바탕으로, 김 박사는 인간의 가치에 부합하고 포용적이며 해석 가능한 책임 있는 AI 시스템 구축에 헌신하고 있다.
