The only way we can effect change is by connecting with each other. When we connect— as old friends or new— we empathize, come together, and share our stories. Unbound, our biweekly newsletter, is made up of a variety of perspectives and stories that come together to create a new narrative—one that amplifies voices that have been underrepresented in our news cycles. Over 200 years ago, abolitionist newspapers focused on ending slavery. Now, as the only abolitionist newspaper, we know there’s still so much work to be done and more conversations to be had. We need to reframe what it means for everyone to be free—and we mean everyone. Freedom for our children to grow up safe, heard, and loved. Freedom for those who will come after us and continue what we’ve started. Emancipation should not be contained to the single moment when Lincoln signed a proclamation. Emancipation is then, now, and forever. #ReframeTheConversation

There’s power in marching. There’s power in protesting. There’s power in exercising our freedom of speech and our right to gather. But there’s also power in peace, when we can go home, set down our bags, and unwind. This, too, is freedom. Freedom to do the things we love with the ones we love. Freedom in knowing that we’re safe in our homes. Freedom for our families. This is the freedom we need to fight for too. The Emancipator works to shed light on perspectives that will effect change, but we also need to remember what we’re working towards. #ReframeTheConversation
