Plans are underway to improve and make the Bellevue Cemetery Memorial ready for the 150th anniversary of the company. This page will document the work being undertaken.
A single spruce tree located just left of the memorial interrupts the symmetry of the area. Research has yet to reveal whether this is an accidental growth or if a similar tree previously existed to the right but was removed. Either way, the tentative plan is to remove it.
The awkwardly located tree to be removed
The tree's condition is not good and getting worse.
Some years ago the company began discussing placing a flagpole at the memorial. Research was done and after seeing the cost of a commercial flagpole, the idea languished. In 2023, inquiries were made to see if/when the town of Adams acquired the old Zylonite (Curtis Paper) mill, if the company could repurpose the poles located there for use at the memorial. Permission was granted and the process of removing the poles began in the summer of 2024. The 3 poles were successfully removed, transported to the station and cleaned. New truck hardware will need to be ordered before they are installed. Since the US flag will need to be illuminated we are looking into getting some solar led lights as well.

Two time capsules were interred at the memorial during the centennial in 1976, a 50 year and a 100 year capsule. The 50 year is scheduled to be opened at the sesquicentennial ceremony in 2026.
