TRACING ARTISTIC ANCESTRIES: MODIGLIANI

June 14, 4 p.m.

Though often cast as a tragic artist who developed a highly idiosyncratic language of his own, Amedeo Modigliani was always deeply aware of the legacy of the past. In this lecture, we look at the various strands of that dialogue – including his response to Cycladic and Egyptian art, the Sienese painting of the 14th century, as well as African and Oceanic sculpture.

Structure: Each lecture is a live event via zoom: a brief check and introduction, to ensure that participants have been able to connect, followed by a slide-presentation of about 50-60 minutes, and a Q&A discussion of about 20-30 minutes. The link is sent on the day of the event.

Fee: 20 USD per person
