ART JOURNEYS - REAL AND VIRTUAL

SEEING WITH NEW EYES

THE ONLY TRUE VOYAGE OF DISCOVERY WOULD BE NOT TO VISIT STRANGE LANDS, BUT TO POSSESS OTHER EYES

What happens as we attend a lecture about art? We gain knowledge about a specific artist or a work of art, about connections among various artists within a culture, but also across different times and places. We also learn to see and think differently.

We are all too familiar with overcrowded museums, filled with visitors who zip around from one famous work of art to another, snapping away pictures as a kind of evidence of their experience. The "slow art" journeys we design offer an antidote to such experiences: TIME to look attentively, exchange ideas with fellow travelers, and contemplate the importance of what one is seeing.

Typically, these journeys are limited to a maximum of 14 participants and focus on a single city. Past programs have included stays in cities like Florence, Venice, Rome, Madrid, Berlin, Brussels, and Antwerp. In addition, we are developing small-group journeys to less known destinations. Their shared quality is the wealth of art and architectural treasures, awaiting to be seen with new eyes.
