Walk through the Piazza Navona area, the Pantheon, two churches featuring Caravaggio paintings (San Luigi di Francesi, San Agostino), Santa Maria della Pace (Raphael frescoes of sybils), Santa Maria Sopra Minerva (with obelisk on top of elephant in the front) and San Ignazio (with the ceiling fresco by Andrea Pozzo)

Day 3: (Tu. Jan 19) Sta Maria Maggiore, Palazzo Massimo, Baths of Diocletian
Morning visit to one of the most important Roman churches: Santa Maria Maggiore (short taxi ride) Visit to one of Rome’s greatest collections of antiquities, Palazzo Massimo.
Group lunch
Visit to the Baths of Diocletian complex – and the church of Sta. Maria degli Angeli (built within ancient baths, design by Michelangelo)

Day 4: (Wed. Jan 20) Palazzo Altemps, Galleria Doria Pamphilj, Il Gesu
Visit Palazzo Altemps - National Roman Museum of Greek and Roman Art
Walk through Campo di Fiori – open air market – depending on the weather
Group lunch
Afternoon visit to one of the most spectacular private art collections in Rome, Doria Pamphilj (Caravaggio, Velazquez)
Optional visit: Church of Il Gesu – the mother church of the Jesuits (open until 7:45 p.m.)

Day 5: (Th. Jan. 21) St. Peter’s and The Vatican Museums
Morning visit to the church of St. Peter’s (walk or taxi)
Group lunch
Afternoon visit to the Vatican Museums, with particular focus on the recently renovated Raphael rooms and Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel
Day 6: (Fr. Jan. 22) Galleria Borghese, Sta Maria del Popolo
Morning visit to the church of Santa Maria del Popolo (Caravaggio – Crucifixion of Peter and Conversion of Paul)
Group lunch.
Afternoon visit to Galleria Borghese – One of the finest collections of painting and sculptures by artists like Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio and Bernini
Optional individual visit: National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art (open until 7 p.m.)

Day 7: (Sat. Jan. 23) Palazzo Barberini & Corsini, Trastevere
Morning visit to the National Gallery, Old Masters collection – Palazzo Barberini (taxi)
Palazzo Barberini is the home of a great collection of Renaissance and Baroque paintings in a distinguished palace formerly owned by the Barberini family
Taxi or bus to Trastevere
Corsini Gallery – Trastevere area or Villa Farnesina (frescoes by Raphael and other artists), recently under restoration
Group lunch
Visit the Church of Santa Maria in Trastevere – early Christian, probably the oldest one in Rome, with beautiful medieval mosaics
Walk back through the Jewish Ghetto

Day 8: (Sun. Jan. 24)
Morning visit to the Capitoline Museums – primarily antiquities, but also a Pinacoteca with Renaissance and Baroque paintings
Group lunch
Visit San Pietro in Vincoli (Michelangelo’s Moses)
Free afternoon to walk around the forum and take in all of the Roman antiquities/ ruins
Day 9: (Mon. Jan. 25) Departures from Rome
