Krasner and Pollock: the Encounter that changed American Art
October 28, 30 - 5 p.m.
The metting between Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock in in 1941 marked the beginning of a profound personal and creative partnership. While history often eclipsed Krasner’s reputation in favor of Pollock’s, today both are rightly celebrated as central figures of Abstract Expressionism.
These two lectures, organized to complement a major exhibition at the MET - on view through January 31 - trace their parallel lives, shared contexts, and individual artistic breakthroughs.
Harmony in Discord: In this lecture, we look at the ways in which these artists from wildly different backgrounds found a common language in post-WWII New York.
The Different Paths towards Abstraction: In this lecture, we will compare Pollock's explosive "drip" painting with Krasner's gluid, layered compositions.
Structure: Each lecture is a live event via zoom: a brief check and introduction, to ensure that participants have been able to connect, followed by a slide-presentation of about 50-60 minutes, and a Q&A discussion of about 20-30 minutes. Participants do not have to sign up for a zoom account. The link to the lecture is sent on the day of the event.
Fee: 20 USD per lecture, per person/ 40 USD for the series
