ARTISTIC ANCESTRY AND DIALOGUES: GUSTAV KLIMT

This lecture uncovers the visual roots of Gustav Klimt's art, tracing his journey from the traditional craftsmanship of his father’s gold-engraving shop to his rebellion as a leader of the Vienna Secession. We shall explore how he synthesized diverse historical influences—including the glowing gold of Byzantine mosaics in Ravenna, the flattened perspectives of Japanese woodblock prints, and classical myths filtered through the psychological landscape of fin-de-siècle Vienna. 

Structure: Each lecture is a live event via zoom: a brief check and introduction, to ensure that participants have been able to connect, followed by a slide-presentation of about 50-60 minutes, and a Q&A discussion of about 20-30 minutes. The link is sent on the day of the event.
