A Message From Casey...
I'm Casey Day, and I'm honored to be a candidate for the Frederick County Board of Education.
For me, it all began, as most good things do, in Kindergarten with Mrs. Harris, an amazing teacher who saw something special in me; she noticed that I came to Kindergarten already reading. She used to take me into the little closet off of the classroom to work with me. It was just an ordinary classroom storage closet, but Mrs. Harris put a small table and a couple of chairs in there for us and in that space. Mrs. Harris patiently guided me through the world of words.
As a 5-year-old, I thought nothing of it; I didn’t know any different. But 16 years later, after college, I began to substitute teach, and found myself substituting in Mrs. Harris's classroom.
I had the chance to speak with her before she left that day, and she shared an enlightening perspective with me. She explained that during my Kindergarten years, teachers were not permitted to teach reading; it was considered developmentally inappropriate. Despite these restrictions, Mrs. Harris recognized my unique needs and devised innovative ways to facilitate my growth and learning,
Now, as your candidate for the Frederick County Board of Education, I bring with me that same commitment to excellence and that same belief in the potential of every child.
If elected, I pledge to prioritize the needs of our students above all else. I'm running for the Board of Education because I believe in the power of education to transform lives. I believe in creating a school system where every child feels seen, valued, and supported. And I believe that together, we can build a brighter future for all our children.
So, as we embark on this journey together, I ask for your support.
