This Christmas window was designed by stained-glass artist Lawrence Saint, around the year 1919. He lived and had a studio just down the road in Huntingdon Valley, worked as a glass artist for Bryn Athyn Cathedral early in his career.
The scenes tell the Christmas story from left to right and from top to bottom. The first scene, in the top left, is the Annunciation to the Shepherds, when the angel appears to the shepherds to tell them about the birth of the Christ Child. Next, look at the scene on the upper right. Here Mary and Joseph are presenting Jesus at the temple in Jerusalem. They encounter Simeon, an old man who has been promised he will not die before he sees the Messiah. (The promise came from the Holy Spirit.) Now look at the scene on the lower left. Here Mary holds Jesus on her lap while the wise men present Him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The final scene is on the lower right. This is the “Flight into Egypt.” Joseph was warned in a dream that he must take Mary and Jesus to Egypt in order to escape persecution by King Herod.
