The manufacturing subteam is responsible for the fabrication and assembly of every component to be inserted into the flight vehicle, including body tubes, nose cones, fins, etc. Every component that makes up the vehicle, minus the motor, recovery systems, and fasteners, is hand built by the manufacturing subteam. Members of this subteam also gain immeasurable experience working with composite materials such as fiberglass and carbon fiber.
A large portion of working on the manufacturing subteam involves operating various kinds of equipment. This includes conventional tools such as drills and saws, as well as more specialized machinery like 3D printers, laser cutters, and machine shop equipment. Being able to use this kind of equipment provides an invaluable insight into the real world of engineering, where ideas may seem simple on paper but turn more difficult when transported to the real world.
The current workday time for the manufacturing subteam is on Tuesdays in the Aero Mavericks lab from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
