Aero Mavericks is a professional aerospace engineering organization representing The University of Texas at Arlington since it was founded in 2008. The organization has competed in numerous competitions throughout the years, such as NASA University Student Launch Initiative, the IREC Spaceport America Cup, and SAE Aero Design. The team has had multiple aspects during this time as well, including the original rocketry branch, fixed wing, and a hybrid rocketry research division. Today Aero Mavs mostly specializes in high-performance rocketry competitions, but anything that flies is still a potential project for the team.
The primary purpose of Aero Mavs is to get UTA students involved in engineering. As students, it's not very often that you're able to have a large amount of hands-on involvement in a high level engineering project from the initial design phase all the way to its full conclusion. In fact, a large amount of engineering students are not able to gain experience with hands-on projects until they reach their senior design classes. A fundamental aspect of being an engineer is wanting to build and improve upon the world around you, and Aero Mavs is the best place to do that, in both a professional and casual setting, with peers and colleagues that share the same mindset and interests as you.
