Guiding Philosophy for My Doctoral Digital Project 

I am currently completing my digital portfolio project on social media (Tik-tok), and its Impact on the Mental Health and Education of Elementary aged children.  The problem is that Social Media usage in and out of schools in elementary aged children is on the rise.  These trends have been noticeable to educators across the board.  I have been an educator for twenty years; I have seen tremendous change in how social media and technology has changed how children engage in learning.  I have also seen how this trend varies in different educational demographics.  My previous educational experience in a Title I school, showed how social media negatively impacted the student’s education.  In the Title I school setting; students created a social media fight page that included videos of students fighting throughout the school day unbeknownst to the adults in the school building.  This behavior by students created an unpleasant environment for students and staff at the school.  This is only a snippet of what and why I think that Social Media usage can impact the learning environment and children’s mental health.
