On January 09, 2023 (Monday), the Levelย 1 (Batch 2028) medical studends of Ateneo de Zamboanga University who were deployed to Mahayag, Zamboanga Del Sur for their community exposure, gathered at the Mahayag Municipal Hall for their COURTESY CALL with the Municipality's Mayor, Hon. Mayor Manuel T. Saladaga, CE (Photo Above) and other officials. Gathered were the three groups assigned at Baranggay San Vicente (Our Group), Baranggay Delusom, and Baranggay Upper Salug.

This is a behind-the-scenes look at our daily house visits during our initial community immersion program. Our routine involved collecting demographic information from every household member and conducting interviews to identify major community issues (see next section) as reported by residents themselves. We also carried out visual inspections and recorded vital signs such as height, weight, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation and mid-upper arm circumference for children and pregnant women.
These are the key issues that our team identified based on feedback from the residents of Barangay San Vicente regarding what they perceive as the community's challenges, deficiencies, and areas requiring enhancement. Residents ranked these issues in order of priority, with a focus on addressing the most pressing needs first.
Residents of the barangay celebrate Araw ng San Vicente (Day of San Vicente) which takes place every 6th of January, and the feast of San Vicente Ferrer, to honor their patron saint, every 8th of the month of April. Lucky us, we got to celebrate with them on our first week at Mahayag!
