Welcome to Centre of Excellence for Advanced Computing, UniMAP Official Website

Associate Professor Dr. Naimah Yaakob

Head of AdvComp

Thank you for visiting us at AdvComp, which is a centre of excellence in UniMAP that has been established since 2020. The core research of AdvComp is focuses on advanced and intelligent computing which is in line with the Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) National Policy. Embracing the IR4.0 implementation, AdvComp’s research areas play important role towards its accomplishment.

Moreover, in today’s digital era and competitive advanced technologies, AdvComp fosters and nurtures exciting research on computational intelligence that is focusing on three main clusters which are Intelligent Computing (IC), Networking & System Integration (NSI), and High Performance Computing & Security (HPCS). In general, the key focus areas are Computational Intelligence &  Data Analytics, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction,  High-Performance Computing, Cyber Security and Networking, and Image and Signal Processing.

AdvComp consists of more than 50 researchers of diverse research backgrounds who are passionate about doing research related to advanced computing and technologies. Our CoE is also actively engaged with local and international visiting research advisors and fellows across the globe, as well as industry experts. We are also looking forward to collaborations and engagement with other local and international universities, as well as research agencies who are working in the same areas.

The main objective of AdvComp is to be the forefront research centre in developing innovations related to advanced computing technologies. Recent developments in frontier technologies, including artificial intelligence, big data, cybersecurity, and high performance computing, have shown tremendous potential for such development. Yet, the recent COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated and created new digital divides between the technology haves and have-nots. In this regards, advanced computing technologies have been one of important tools for addressing the spread of the disease.

The last few years have highlighted the critical role that computing plays in tackling society’s most pressing issues. For instance, our AdvComp is fundamental in fighting disinformation, building fair artificial intelligence solutions for tackling CoVid-19 predictions, investigating more reliable and secure networking technology of Software Defined Networks (SDN), and protecting our nation’s infrastructure from cyberattacks.

Moreover, our research areas are also in-line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that have been listed by United Nations (UN). We are focusing on SDG9 (Industry, Innovation, and infrastructure), SDG 11 (Make Cities And Human Settlements Inclusive, Safe, Resilient, And sustainable) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption And Production). This is envisaged to be realized through national and international collaboration with researchers, academia, industries, and start-ups companies. Thereby AdvComp will continue to resonate with accelerating Malaysia’s National Policy of IR4.0 while preserving Malaysia’s competence and capability in advanced computing technologies & solutions to ensure human advancement.

As the Head of CoE, I strongly believe collaborations with industry players and academic institutions (local and international), will strengthen our research and innovation, while at the same time increasing our achievement internationally.

Work with us if you are an entrepreneur or partner with us to enhance our digital economy. Let us help you solve challenges in your industry.

Thank You.
