When you come across an abandoned newborn kitten, there are certain things that you will be required to do as the replacement for its mother. This includes helping the kitten to defecate and urinate.
Although it can be a bit messy at first, a sufficient amount of tissues and gloves can make the job so much easier!
The following steps must be done BEFORE and AFTER every meal:
Place the kitten on your hand and make sure it is in a comfortable position, ideally facing downwards.
Put on gloves if preferred - make sure they are clean. Take soft facial tissues and fold them.
Gently rub the kitten around the external organ in circular motions to mimic the mother licking. This will stimulate them to potty. It will take a maximum of 30 - 45 seconds each, or less. Make sure to continue until it is no longer passing anything.
Wipe gently following the similar pattern with another clean tissue to clean up any residue.
