This is the most vital part of fostering a newborn kitten. As they cannot regulate their own heat till they are at least four weeks old - it is up to the foster to ensure that they are kept warm.
Heating pads can be bought from Daraz, or Miniso. If a heating pad is not available, the following alternative can be used. Gently place a soft material cotton cloth around the kitten and softly wrap the kitten in it - securely, but not tightly. Hold the kitten against your skin and place a hand over it. Softly rub the kitten without applying harsh pressure. This will help the kitten be warm with the help of your body temperature.
Firstly, you will need a heating pad of any kind. It must be placed under a blanket or a soft towel. Ensure that it is not too warm by placing the back of your hand against it for a short while. If it is too hot, place another layer of material over it.
Preferably, keep the heating pad on one side of the box, and a small collection of soft cotton material on the other side so they can ‘cool off’ when needed. Please note that the box should not be too big. The heating pad must be changed every 2 hours or so, or when it loses its warmth. It is very important to ensure that the box, the heating pad and the soft materials used are clean.
The kitten must be kept away from open windows and direct sunlight. It is best to keep it in a position in which it can move away from it at will. Ensure that the room that they are kept in is not windy. They must be kept in a safe place under constant supervision as they are prone to attract predators.
