THE POWER OF AFFIRMATIONS
Daily affirmations are a powerful + transformative tool. They help an individual take steps into a more positive future through awareness, releasing + transforming.
It's time to break free of beliefs, patterns + habits which no longer serve you.
How affirmations create change:
Rewire neural pathways
The brain forms neural connections based on repeated experiences + thoughts. Affirmations, through consistent repetition, can help create new, positive neural pathways + weaken negative ones, essentially rewiring your brain to think differently.
Alter your perception
Your brain has a "perception filter" shaped by past experiences. Initially, it may reject affirmations that don't align with your existing beliefs. However, with consistent practice, the brain becomes more open to new ideas, allowing you to start believing in positive statements about yourself, which can lead to a shift in your actions + reality. It takes time, keep going.
Boost confidence + reduce stress
Affirmations can reinforce positive thoughts about your abilities, building self-confidence. This positive mindset can also help limit stress + negative rumination, leading to better health outcomes.
Focus on core values
By affirming your core values, you can reconnect with what is important to you. Research shows that the brain regions associated with positive valuation + self-related information processing become more active when people consider their personal values.
Making affirmations effective:
Be consistent
Repetition is key for affirmations to work. The more you practice them, the more they become a part of your thought process.
Make them positive
Frame affirmations in a positive, present-tense manner.
For example, instead of "I will not be anxious," try "I am calm + at peace".
Address the "perception filter"
If an affirmation feels completely untrue, try modifying it to something more believable.
For instance, instead of "I am a wealthy person," you could say, "I am learning to become financially successful".
Use them when you need them
You can use affirmations to counter negative thoughts as they arise.
For example, if you feel defensive in a conversation, you can remind yourself that you aim to be a good, non-defensive listener.
