The issue my project addresses is the hardships and loneliness many senior citizens may encounter in my community.
Adopt A Senior program strives to aid local senior citizens who have difficulty or may need assistance in tasks such as buying groceries, running errands, taking out the trash, raking leaves, shoveling...etc. Due to hindrances such as the current global pandemic, health issues, or simply aging many seniors may find basic tasks difficult. This project is volunteer-driven, and once I match a volunteer with the senior, I hope that they establish the trust and help cater to the needs of the senior. I will be in initial touch with both, the senior and the volunteer, but later after they establish a firm relationship I will trust that they will work well together.
Five Minute Friday is a program that recognizes that senior citizens may not have close family or friends to interact with. Loneliness has proven to take a negative toll on one's life, therefore this program tackles the loneliness by pairing a senior with a student volunteer to talk to each Friday. The lack of interaction can often make a senior citizen's life uneventful, therefore this program gives seniors someone to share their day with!
