In a bid to hone journalistic skills, amplify the youths' representative voice in national discourse, and educational competencies, the 2024 Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) kicked off at Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School on March 16, 2024. The event aimed to cultivate the talents of budding journalists while instilling in them the values of integrity, responsibility, and social consciousness.
An opening program spearheaded by Mr. Michael O. Tamallana, a Schools Division Office (SDO) representative, delivered the rules and regulations for the group contests. Followed by a mini press conference that tackles the educational gaps and programs to be implemented by the Department of Education (DepEd).
Adding prestige to the event, esteemed professionals, including SDO representative Mr. Michael O. Tamallana and Public School District Supervisor (PSDS) representative Dr. Alma S. Janagap, lent their expertise as resource speakers addressing topics in promoting quality and inclusive education. Mr. Bonifacio Camilon, the stakeholder representative, also graced the occasion, offering his unwavering support to the young journalists.
Mr. Tamallana tackles the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program to provide students with quality and inclusive education despite their personal disadvantages.
Additionally, Dr. Janagap promotes the recently implemented Catch-Up Friday to strengthen the foundations of peace education, health education, and values education.
To give limelight for the outstanding support of the Local Government Unit to the DepEd, Mr. Camilon also extends his insights regarding the role of the LGU in relation to education.
Furthermore, the DSPC, guided by the provisions of Republic Act No. 7079, also known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991, reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing the next generation of media leaders and fostering a culture of excellence in journalism education.
As the participants departed with newfound inspiration and determination, the legacy of the DSPC echoed through the halls of CCNHS, serving as a testament to the power of youth voices and the enduring impact of journalistic integrity.
