Amidst the continuous advancement of education in our country, further initiatives are introduced for the benefit of all citizens. While some may express frustration at the introduction of yet another proposal or program, it is worth considering that the opportunity provided by such initiatives may alter perspectives. Perhaps, with this push, everyone will reconsider their stance and recognize the potential benefits for all.
As per the Current Population Survey (CPS), the proportion of students engaged in part-time employment stands at approximately 74% among those enrolled full-time, while roughly 40% of full-time students are involved in such employment. When other people would thought that there will be no more chance to grab that potential or even energy is wrong, with the high amount of the proportion of students no continuing the class— a path appears in front of their eyes, the Alternative Learning System (ALS) serves was put as a complementary educational pathway for individuals who may lack access to or cannot avail themselves of formal schooling.
Shaping Minds
As a student myself, I understand the perspective of other learners that decided to settle and prioritize work other than their education as one of the reason is poverty and not having the capability to enter a formal schooling. However, as the Department of Education (DepEd) proposed ALS, this gives enough assurance that every people that has the passion to continue on learning will not face any trouble as with the program, it will continuously reach to give benefits for all and give them equal chances to quality education and to continue learning.
ALS utilizes a standardized module framework that encompasses a broad spectrum of academic topics, such as science, mathematics, Filipino, English, social studies, and current events. This standardization guarantees uniformity in the educational materials offered, promoting a structured and all-encompassing learning area for the students.
Claiming Success
In an interview with GMA News, Josephine, a 67-year-old woman enrolled in the ALS program, emphasized the importance of perseverance and passion in learning. She shared her belief that those who persistently pursue their educational goals will ultimately achieve success. Josephine vividly recalled a pivotal moment that reignited her dedication to education. Her words carry a profound message: “Huwag kang huminto mag-aral, kita mo nga ako nag-aaral. [Do not stop, look at me, I am also studying.” This underscores the resilience of individuals who, despite facing obstacles, remain committed to completing their education and earning a degree. With the assistance of the ALS program, Josephine was able to continue her learning journey, demonstrating how it opens pathways for individuals to persevere, find hope, and utilize encouragement to their advantage.
Pushing Progress
As young individuals, we have often been reminded that we hold the key to our nation's future—each learner embodies hope for progress in our country. Given that education stands as a crucial sector in our nation, the ongoing introduction and suggestion of programs serve as avenues for learners to further excel. Through the effective execution of these programs, there is a significant opportunity for the nation to address the rising issue of learning poverty. Moreover, with the support of the government and their dedicated efforts, ensuring the provision of necessary materials such as modules and adequate teacher training, learners can feel at ease and unburdened. This endeavor sheds light on the government and the educational system's potential for implementing additional programs through careful assessment and collaboration, thus preventing the exacerbation of educational challenges in our country.
As the education sector keeps embracing various programs, Filipinos remain hopeful that those dealing with doubts, uncertainties, and inner struggles won't hesitate to courageously move forward one step at a time. It is not yet over. This initiative serves as the starting point for further approach of the nation securing the knowledge of every learner to empower.
In a country where many face barriers to traditional schooling, ALS serves as a way for expanding the educational rights of every Filipino. Those with a passion to finish their education find their way to the finish line, their hearts filled with warmth and pride as they achieve their goals with bright smiles and a sense of accomplishment.
