The main question to MPs and Councilors is: What should rideshare drivers do if there is no legal place to do drop-offs and pick-ups for passengers with mobility issues?

22/5/24: A1. North terrace (north side) in front of Adelaide casino either drop off or pickup on every weekend night
The entire strip of north terrace is the worst
22/5/24: A2. North terrace (south side) close to the bank street, either drop off or pickup
22/5/24: A3. Grenfell St amongst others.
I also understand that the drop off/pick up area in front of the Ibus Hotel in Grenfell St has now been zoned for Taxis only. People don't want to walk any further than they have to and especially if they have luggage
Two months ago, this used to be a loading zone. Now only taxis are allowed there.
So now we have to go around the corner to pick up someone legally.
So now you have to commit to turning down a potential blocked lane to hope the 2 loading bays are empty, and not full of taxis
22/5/24: A4. Morphett Street. Accommodation places
I have been booked on Morphett Street outside one of the Accommodation places as they have no passenger pick up spot.
COA need to review their entire council area.
22/5/24: A5. Currie Street.
Somebody was issued a fine for parking outside the Sofitel on Currie Street recently. I checked the signage out the front and it does state buses/coaches although I never see any there. All hotel and like accommodation should have pick up/ drop off areas for the benefit of the accommodation owners, traffic flow and tourism in general.
The entire strip of Currie street is one of the worst
I got fined at the Sofitel in Currie St. It looks like a stopping zone, until you read the sign carefully.
There were some photos attached to the post which looked like they were taken from a vehicle, quite possibly a bus. Is this a new, normal practice? Do the council have a practice of reviewing and actioning CCTV, similar to what Holdfast are doing at Glenelg?
How do you guys pick up and drop off your passengers on Currie Street? I noticed that there is no loading zone on the entire street before 9:00 AM.

22/5/24. A7. Hindley Street
I mentioned specifically Hindley Street and North Terrace where all legal drop-off zones are full of vehicles all the time after 6pm and often they are police vehicles or Taxis.
Adelaide City Council have opened their consultation now too for upgrading Hindley St.
See the response from the Adelaide City Council relating to our suggestions:

22/5/24 A8. Rundle Street
If I'm not mistaken, there are 2 taxi ranks either side of Rundle Mall on King William Street, maybe one of them can be designated for Rideshare.
By the way, more taxi zones have been added on Rundle Street. Anyone notice? Rideshare not allowed to park in taxi ranks!
22/5/24 A8a. Pirie Street
Pirie St ped crossing could have flashing lights (like the one at McLaren Vale) to indicate that it is a ped crossing. Once or twice I have started to go through the crossing when a ped steps onto it and I get abused for not giving way. Sometimes you think the crossing is clear when a ped starts to cross at the last minute.
22/5/24 A8b. Adelaide Oval
Constantly cancelling rides around oval, why don't people use common sense when booking rides......
They think that if taxis are here then uber can also come here.
22/5/24. A9 Gouger Street
22/5/24 A10. O'Connell Street
22/5/24. A11. Melbourne Street
22/5/24. A12. King William Street, the full length from South Tce to Adelaide Oval
Both sides of King William Street because of what seems to be one continuous bus stop. Passengers are waiting at bus stops, sometimes with luggage waiting to be picked up. It's hard to know if they are waiting for us or the bus. Since the tram line was put down KW St and North Tce, all the parking spaces have gone and there is absolutely no where safe to pick up or drop off. I've had say "just here is fine " which happens to be either a bus stop or taxi zone. One passenger even gave me a 1 star rating because I didn't drop her off where she wanted in Wright St and she wanted had to walk that little bit further.
22/5/24. A13. Lion Art Factory, 68 North Terrace
Lion Art Factory, 68 North Terrace, and also going down towards West Terrace.
On Friday night, I had to pick up a single lady from this place. Looking at the photo, there is a yellow line there. There is also a driveway where cars can pull into, but a car had parked in this driveway, so I could not pull in. Since there is no loading zone, I had to go way further down the road to a loading zone, where i rang them to tell them to wait outside (at night), and then had to go around the whole block again, so that I could pick them up. Luckily the car blocking the drive way had moved on by them. Very frustrating situation.
A14. Hindley Street/Rundell Street and King William near Rundell Mall
By the way, more taxi zones have been added on Rundle Mayfair Hotel. Used to be passenger loading zone. Has changed to Permit zone now, whatever that means.
Can Rideshare use it?
A15. Rundell Mall, and East Terrace.
During fringe time there was a dedicated pick up area near gluttony which went to Taxis. There is no plausible explanation. Only that there is legal discrimination between the businesses one being preferred. Is that fair ?
A16. 2WK
2kw there is no loading zone at this moment
31/5/24: Prior to drop off at the Fishbank, 2 King William St on North Tce frontage, I said to the passenger that I would pull into the lane, due to yellow lines on North Tce. You guessed it, the lane had freshly painted solid yellow lines so I stopped in the middle of the lane to let him out. As I drove out onto King William St I looked for the first legal spot to drop him, it was Pirie street!!!
A17. Pulteney Street - I just dropped one lady off where she requested. I stopped for 5 to 20 seconds. It was quick and safe and I did not block any traffic. What was I supposed to do?
What we need is some sort of comparison graph of the number of parking infringement notices issued in the Adelaide City Council from January 2021 to end June 2024 by month showing parking infringement notices issued to taxi-plate drivers compared to rideshare drivers. Easily done since the traffic department has license numbers of Taxis and rideshare vehicles.

22/5/24: G1. Glenelg has been operating a similar car camera since 2018.
It looks like Glenelg has been operating a similar car camera since 2018. It makes more sense than someone sitting around scanning hours of CCTV looking for parking expiation notice. Nothing like a bit of bulk revenue raising.
22/5/24. G2. Glenelg
As a Uber driver, we all more or less stop in a no-stopping area to pick up and drop off our passengers. this is wrong but for the customer's sake we do it and the council taking advantage of it. three of my drivers got fined at the same spot. so I thought we should raise awareness and stop dropping off passengers here. I hope this will help another driver.
City of Holdfast capturing photos from a street surveillance camera in Glenelg.
I gave feedback stating they need to include rideshare zones at Moseley Square, Jetty Rd and Moseley St, Glenelg plus 2 more Rideshare zones further along Jetty Rd. I said that loading zones are insufficient because other drivers use them. I said that City of Holdfast Bay are setting rideshare drivers up for failure by providing no legal drop off zones but then fining drivers in these areas.
Absolutely disgusting there is no where to stop. How is this practical same story in city. Need to make riders aware of it. I had a lady in a wheel chair do a booking just at a roundabout no stopping for few meters all yellow lines too much traffic and she got very upset cuz she thought she was privileged and I had to stop at a roundabout to get her. Go figure
same happen with me last month and exact same street and same spot and it was $320
did they wave off?
No - nothing happened until news come newspaper or tv channel

Annoyed Clients! Driver had to Drive down Jetty road a bit, turn right heading towards the Stamford and there is a spot out of camera range. Drivers need to be able to drop people off legally on Jetty road. They are getting reported to Uber, which damages their rating, through no fault of their own, but rather the councils issue.

I was there for just about 15 secs until passengers got in. There is no where to park, and I get fined to do my job!
I live in Glenelg North, so this issue impacts me a lot. Fine: $113. Thats a lot of money for me.

4/6/24 .
Is this photo taken from a police car or some other vehicle?
The Rideshare Driver was picking up someone at 2:12am.
These drivers are being fined for doing their jobs! What was this driver supposed to do at 2:12am?
Why is this sign "No standing from midnight to 6am" when its a loading zone throughout the day?
Here is a rideshare driver who is helping someone by picking them up at 2:12am, opposite the library, opposite the taxi rank, where they are not allowed to park, and they are getting fined $111. They were there for less than one minute! This is ridiculous!
G7 - 8/6/24
I can't see the rideshare stopping zones happening. Holdfast bay are the worst council. I got a $113 fine for stopping for about a minute on cnr of Moseley and Jetty Rd. Yellow line. But it's where customer was waiting and if we wait anywhere else they rate poorly and get angry they have to walk
Comment and photo not related, but still highlights the issue drivers have to deal with.
G8 - 15/6/24
I got fine from Holdfast bay council of 113$.
The passenger was in a hurry and was insisting me to drop there. Actually the drop off spot was before I turned left but due to no place to stop I just kept on driving until I turned left.
So my $11 trip has cost me $113! For doing my Job!
G9: Some of us have explained the reasons for stopping where we did in a stat dec but had it ignored and still had to pay. See ---------->
We should tell the council that They have earned bad feedback that we as drivers receive for not being able to fulfill our customers arrival or destination expectations, and at the same time we the drivers are receiving fines to provide a reasonable and realistic service to these passengers who spend their money the Glenelg economic zone. We are being fined to do our jobs!
We need a sign in the cars which states "Due to Holdfast Bay Council Regulations, we are unable to drop-off and pick-up passengers from your location on Jetty Road for the next two months or until appropriate signage is put in place."
Adelaide Hills - problem areas where there is no legal drop off/pick up
AH1. Hahndorf
As part of my complaint with the DTI about a fine they gave me in Hahndorf, I received a call from one of them and let fly about all of this, focusing on the fact that they charge us to operate and then fine us for operating, and make no real efforts to make things safer for anyone. Without legal drop-off zones, it is never going to be safe
I mentioned specifically Hindley Street and North Terrace where all legal drop-off zones are full of vehicles all the time after 6pm and often they are police vehicles or Taxis.
They suggested I complain to Tom K.
Prospect
P1. Prospect
Almost all streets which is heavily dependent on buses and taxis should have a rideshare base. All other spots are usually taken up by other cars. I was once booked in prospect for picking up a passenger from bicycle lane just after the bus stop which was $312.00 pickup was less than 2 mins stop
