Update: 12/8/2024: Today I sent the email in the link to a few federal ministers. https://sites.google.com/view/adlridesharecorrespondance/federal-government . It also contains the video this video: https://youtu.be/KifoZRnruR8 Title: Comments on House of Reps Standing Committee meeting on 09/08/2024 at 1:40pm re ADL Rideshare issues .
Update 26/07/2024: The City of Holdfast Bay has not got back to us, so we drove down there to take a look. Here is the video https://youtu.be/t02qfBziABk Shocked to see they now have 18 Cameras on 9 poles on Jetty road, Glenelg, and at least another on Broadway.
The Holdfast Bay Council has recently installed 18 cameras on 9 posts on Jetty Road in Glenelg, resulting in numerous fines, especially for rideshare drivers who are simply trying to do their jobs. One particularly troubling incident involved a person being fined $113 after moving out of the way for an emergency vehicle, and upon appeal, no action was taken resulting in the fine having to be paid. Essentially, if someone exits your car on Jetty Road without being in an appropriate car park, you are almost certain to receive a fine in the mail within a few months. This could impact you or tourists or visitors in the area!
Update 16/07/2024: The City of Holdfast Bay has not got back to us, even though we sent them the email below on 2 July 2024.
Update 26/06/2024: Eight Rideshare Drivers had a positive meeting with three members of the City of Holdfast Bay City Council and discussed the letters below.

About an hour after sending the message below (Correspondence 1), I received a phone call, requesting us to provide a Map of where we would want the pick-up and drop-off points. Issues Summary: Some comments from rideshare drivers re Glenelg area:
a. Remove some car spaces and convert to dedicated rideshare/MV areas only
b. Opposite taxi rank on Colley Terrace there is a disabled parking, and then a one hour parking spot, which converts to "No Standing" after midnight. Does not make sense.
c. As a Uber driver, we all more or less stop in a no-stopping area to pick up and drop off our passengers. This is wrong but for the customer's sake we do it and the council taking advantage of it by fining us.
d. City of Holdfast capturing photos from a street surveillance camera in Glenelg.
e. I gave feedback stating they need to include rideshare zones at Moseley Square, Jetty Rd and Moseley St, Glenelg plus 2 more Rideshare zones further along Jetty Rd. I said that loading zones are insufficient because other drivers use them. I said that City of Holdfast Bay are setting rideshare drivers up for failure by providing no legal drop off zones but then fining drivers in these areas.
f. I had a lady in a wheel chair do a booking just at a roundabout no stopping for few meters all yellow lines too much traffic and she got very upset cuz she thought she was privileged and I had to stop at a roundabout to get her. Go figure.
g. They finally gave me a ticket in Glenelg, on the corner of Jetty Road and Moseley Street from Camera on Camera only post? …. I completed a stat dec to claim that the passengers (young girls) were trying to get out to meet friends, (which they were) so I pulled over to safely let them out. Response from council: "Thank you for your correspondence in regard to the above notice. After reviewing the information you have provided, and considering the Australian Road Rules 1999, we are unable to waive the expiation fee of $113.00 on this occasion."
h. What should rideshare/MV plate drivers do if there is no legal place for drop-offs and pick-ups for passengers with mobility issues?
i. The disabled are being discriminated due to the extra physical travel they need to make because drivers will only drop off or pick up where safe and legal.
j. The main issue is people want to be picked up from where they are, however most of the time there is no legal area for people to park, and we ridershare drivers cannot touch our phones to communicate with them. Also during drop off, they want to get out as soon as they get to their destination, and sometimes open the door when the car stops, even though we have told them not to exit because it is not safe, and then we get fined!
k. See: https://mylicence.sa.gov.au/roadrules/the-drivers-handbook/parking#:~:text=You%20must%20not%20park%20your,than%20three%20metres%20away%20and which highlights the following as of 6/6/2024: (This should also apply for yellow lines for ride share vehicles, or rideshare vehicles should be allowed to drop-off or pick-up in taxi zones.)
Details: (More can be provided if required. Actual drivers' comments.)
