Microsoft spends 100's of manual labor hours and 1000's of dollars to create fiscal month-end reports documenting their financials such as Accounts Receivable and global performances. This time-consuming and intensive process can be automated, and I am helping to work on this automation process.
This position under Microsoft is not a formal internship, but rather it is a partnership between the McCombs Masters in Business Analytics program and Microsoft. As part of the capstone class for the undergraduate BAX major, we are partnered with a team of MSBA students, and our two teams together are partnered with Microsoft to help them with their automation task.
The structure of this "internship" consisted of regular touch points with Microsoft and the MSBA students to maintain progress in 3 main categories:
1) Data extraction and conversion to Python visuals
2) Excel to Python PowerPoint automation/generation
3) Insightful Commentary generation through utilizing AI and ML
Throughout the semester, we were able to automate the end-to-end generation of a PowerPoint slide deck that mimicked the aesthetic and layout of Microsoft's internal financial team. By just running one cell in Python, the entire presentation is automatically created with visuals and commentary embedded. The visuals are updated with new Microsoft monthly data as time passes, and the commentary leveraged LangChain and Azure AI's API to imitate the human-like reasoning of a team of financial analysts.
