McCombs affiliated Student Organization
Business Analytics is actually a new major that McCombs recently added in line with the growing field of analytics and data. As someone who was technically inclined and fell in love with Data Science through Python, I knew that this was the major for me given the amount of Python-based classes. To support the creation of a new major, I co-founded the Business Analytics Association at UT to help students understand the new major as well as learn the necessary technical skills to be successful.
I took the role of corporate director in BAXA which involved creating the sponsorship package for the organization to help raise funding, reaching out to companies to set up networking events for our students, and students connect with people who can help them advance their careers. I wanted to have an involved role in student's professional lives as well as talk with professionals in various industries so I knew this was the role for me.
Throughout the last year, I have helped create various organizational deliverables including flyers and a sponsorship package to provide companies insight into BAXA, built organizational structure with faculty representatives by planning meetings, writing by-laws, and developing mentor programs, and I helped lead the recruitment during the pilot year of BAXA initiating 60+ students into BAXA and increased exposure to the new McCombs major. I have also recently mentored various students in Data Science and helped them to create end-to-end data science projects, and due to the growth of AI, I reconstructed the Business Analytics curriculum to focus on machine learning models and artificial intelligence engineering.
