Allowing for versatile use across a range of industries, a hot melt adhesive is a type of thermoplastic that is employed as an adhesive because of its ability to melt when heated and solidify when cold. Hot melt adhesives are usually clear or translucent, and are often employed in situations necessitating high strength and water resistance. These materials can be used in a number of industries, ranging from packaging to electronics.
Here at Adhesive & Equipment, Inc. (A&E), we’re proud to specialize in hot melt equipment and parts and, as a leader in the field, can also rebuild, install, and maintain a wide range of OEM products. Collaborating with renowned industry leaders such as Nordson®, Graco, Valco Melton, ITW Dynatec, Slautterback®, Meltex, PREO, Robatech, Cox, DATCO, Statomix®, and Union Tool, A&E supplies a diverse selection of melters and pumps, as well as various associated tools and parts such as hoses and nozzles.
A&E supplies hot melt applicators, modules, and glue guns, along with critical components such as cable assemblies and applicator heads.
Applicators are used to apply the hot melt adhesive onto the required surface. We can produce custom-made units as needed, and carry a range of standard unit types, including SureBead®, zero cavity, reduced cavity, low profile, washdown, double effect – air open/air closed (AO/AC), air open/spring closed (AO/SC), narrow, platinum RTD, slot coat, high volume, controlled fiberization (spray), no body/no module, and right angle.
A&E also supplies a complete range of Nordson® applicators, as well as modules that control the flowrate of the adhesive. We can provide a wide variety of single- and multi-modules that easily control the flowrate of even very high-viscosity materials. In addition to these offerings, A&E offers various types of glue guns, such as low-profile melt guns (employed for angle and pattern flexibility), zero-cavity hot melt guns (for enhanced precision), electric hot melt guns, reduced-cavity hot melt guns (for effective, low-maintenance applications), and M200SC slot coating guns (for intermittent application). Finally, our team supplies various cable assemblies, replacement heads, and miscellaneous parts required for hot melt projects.
Before selecting specific hot melt equipment and parts, it’s critical to have a solid understanding of the hot melt process itself. During hot melt adhesive processes, a thermoplastic adhesive is heated, allowing it to melt and form a viscous liquid; this liquid is then applied between the surfaces to be joined. As the thermoplastic dries, it forms an adhesive layer between the two parts. It’s essential to precisely control the application of the liquid adhesive. Therefore, hot melt equipment for pattern control, temperature control, flow metering, remote metering, and verification is also available.
In bulk delivery systems, large quantities of adhesives are treated in drums or pails. Heavy-duty bulk systems are usually employed in large-scale industrial applications. Nordson® offers a wide array of equipment specifically designed for such applications. Their 55-gallon drum melters, for instance, can process adhesives, sealants, and butyls from 20-liter or 5-gallon pails, and allow for various customization options.
Collaborating with some of the most respected, experienced industry leaders, A&E is proud to supply highly innovative, efficient solutions for all types of hot melt adhesive needs. Our expert team is well-equipped to provide holistic solutions for each unique application, and can even provide customized solutions as needed.
