With detailed information on learners in a community, even anywhere in the world, the Adaptive Learning Coach could be used to “nudge” groups of learners together, connect learners with similar/shared paths of learning, and direct learners to available experts as needed for learning support. The learning platform could remove barriers for learners by proactively helping students make connections with experts regardless of location, ability or social standing.
Interested in mastering woodcarving? Join a group of other enthusiasts and share videos of your technique, discuss new discoveries and learn from someone considered an expert/master by the larger community. These communities already exist, and you can find communities of learners on sites like YouTube sharing their craft, but what if there's also an obscure forum somewhere, what if you're interested in an obscure and long lost technique only known by six people in the whole world, wouldn't you want a way to get in contact with them if it was possible? You can think of it like search but for learning communities and learning opportunities.
Social Learning
Much in the way current social networks allow individuals to connect over shared common interests, learners would be able to connect to others to share their own learning, reach out for support, or move along a path to mastery with a partner or in a group. Learning communities provide support, encouragement, and a meaningful audience for constructive criticism and sharing in the joy of discovery and success.
Pay it Forward
Studies have shown that by actually teaching others, you are also able to deepen your own understanding of the subject and enhance your own learning (Fiorella & Mayer, 2013) which may be linked to the practice of retreiving prior knowledge and understanding, particularly the act of 'reflective knowledge building' (Koh et al., 2018). By connecting learners with others at varying levels in their understanding, as well as those who have mastered or nearly mastered a concept/skill both the learner and the teacher benefit. The learner by getting various perspectives, and the teacher by consolidating their own understanding in the form of teaching it to others.
