First God made men of ice,
And they were fine on the cold and wintry nights
But in the warmth of a summer day
Or the heat of love, they’d melt away.
Then god made men of wood,
They were stiff and hard and he thought that was good.
Then one day they discovered fire,
Got too close and the flames went higher.
I hope he's got it right. I hope he's got it right.
Then god made men of coal,
With an eye for beauty and for gold.
They discovered they could make each other into diamonds,
destroyed their children trying to refine them.
I hope he's got it right. I hope he's got it right.
I have arms that end in hands,
I have legs on which to stand.
I have eyes to see out of my head,
I have ears to hear what's said.
But god did not prepare us for the bitter part,
When he gave us all a heart.
I hope he's got it right.
