Eastbound

WB shield and LGS leaving CT 171 in Union. Wide shield comes after crossing into Woodstock.

A patriotic junction assembly for CT 198 with EB shield after the intersection. ConnDOT seems to have decided on wide shields for 3-digit route numbers.

Thankfully back to narrow shields after Center Rd. and Brickyard Rd. in Woodstock. Narrow shields prevail at the CT 169 junction as well! The only issue is the order of the LGSs, why is Worcester before Quinebaug?

After 169, the LGSs are in the proper order. Second shield is not too far beyond the first.

Coming to the junction with CT 131 in Thompson. The old, cracked shields in this area have thicker borders than other signs along 197.

Final EB shield, again with a thicker border. Dresser Hill Rd. is NOT CT 31, but it does connect to MA 31. Someone needs to buy a TO banner. Crossing into MA, the blue sign is technically across the border, but it's still noteworthy since these signs are typically green.

Westbound

Entering from MA, we get a bookleaf and a green town line sign. Notice the very faded Old Turnpike Rd. sign on the left post (second pic). 4-way intersection warning before Dresser Hill Rd./Walker Rd.

At the CT 169 junction. WB shield is after Brickyard Rd. in Woodstock, a few miles after CT 169.

At the CT 198 junction. One lone narrow shield survives!

At the western terminus of CT 197.

CT 171 EB at CT 197 with some old shields. Fortunately, 197 gets away with no ugly Helvetica shields, but 171 isn't so lucky.
