When considering an adult name change, the Court's primary goal is to ensure the request is made in good faith and not for any fraudulent or illegal purpose. Applicants must provide a clear, legitimate reason for the change, as the Court will conduct a thorough background check and will likely deny any application intended to evade financial obligations or conceal a criminal record. Be prepared to answer questions under oath regarding any outstanding legal judgments, pending lawsuits, or your complete criminal history, which may include serious past offenses or recent arrests. The Court requires complete and honest information, and failure to attest that you are not evading creditors or to provide a full picture of your background can result in the denial of your request.
