"Freedom is not just the right to live, but the responsibility to live with purpose."
Nazareth Convent High School celebrated the 79th Independence Day with deep reverence and joy. The theme of this year’s celebration reflected the idea that freedom is not only a legacy of the past but also a duty for the future. The school auditorium radiated the tricolour spirit as students, staff, parents and dignitaries gathered to pay tribute to the nation.
The programme began with a soulful prayer for the nation’s peace, prosperity and unity, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising wisdom and harmony. The esteemed Chief Guests — the parents of our SSC toppers, Miss Galeena Shiju and Miss Pavithra Nair — were warmly welcomed with cards and saplings, a gesture of affection, growth and sustainability.
The unfurling of the National Flag by the guests, accompanied by the National Anthem, pledge and flag song, filled the air with patriotic pride.
Adding depth to the occasion, students shared the significance of Independence Day and staged a thought-provoking skit on a pressing social issue. Through their performance, they reminded everyone that true patriotism lies not only in celebrating the country’s past but also in addressing its present challenges. This was followed by prayers and petitions for farmers, leaders, the armed forces and every citizen, strengthening the sense of responsibility towards the nation.
The cultural segment beautifully wove together words and melodies of patriotism. Students delivered speeches in English and Hindi, recited a moving poem, and filled the hall with patriotic fervour through the choir’s songs and a graceful dance performance showcasing the colours of freedom.
The inspiring parents shared their journeys of nurturing success, while Principal Sr. Elizabeth Jaya Rani addressed the gathering with words of wisdom, urging everyone to live by the values represented in the tricolour.
The celebration ended with a heartfelt vote of thanks to all who made the day memorable. As the programme drew to a close, the resounding call of “Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!” echoed in every heart, leaving the audience inspired to carry forward the spirit of freedom with responsibility and pride.
