The celebration began on a melodious note with the choir singing “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” A powerful Eco-Parliament followed, creatively portraying a mock trial of planet Earth. The Earth, in deep distress, pleaded for justice against the rising threat of plastic pollution. A cast of characters—including a speaker, environment minister, industrialist, youth representative, fact-checker, student representative, voices of nature, and even Plastic himself—engaged in a compelling discussion on the harmful effects of plastic and possible solutions. The intense drama captivated the audience and delivered a strong environmental message.
A thought-provoking video further reinforced the message, followed by a pledge, where students solemnly vowed to protect and preserve Mother Earth. The choir then sang “The Earth Song”, followed by a soul-stirring dance performance to “Heal the World.”
An interactive environment-based quiz was also conducted, where students enthusiastically participated and showcased their awareness.
In addition to the main program, creative and hands-on activities were also conducted to mark the occasion. A poster-making activity based on the theme was held for Classes 5, 6 and 7, allowing students to express their thoughts through art. For Classes 8 and 9, an envelope-making activity was organized. These handmade envelopes will be donated to various hospitals for dispensing medicines, promoting reuse and reducing plastic use.
The Principal, Sr. Elizabeth Jaya Rani concluded the event with an inspiring address, urging students to remain committed to protecting the environment. She appreciated the school’s continuous efforts—such as the use of steel tiffin boxes and water bottles by a majority of students and maintaining a plastic-free campus. Her words served as a renewal of the school’s pledge to remain an eco-conscious institution and to keep walking the path of sustainability. We also had the privilege of welcoming six esteemed SCN Sisters to Nazareth Convent High School on the occasion of World Environment Day. Their gracious presence and appreciation added great value to our program.
