Multifactor Authentication: Setting it up and  Troubleshooting

Multifactor Authentication

This is to help keep your account secure. (You do not have to use the app to set this up.)

OPTIONS: You can set up MFA through a free app, by text, or by email.  Watch the video and look at the document at the bottom for assistance with MFA.

IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE GETTING YOUR MFA SET UP, PLEASE SEE THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THIS PAGE TO REACH OUT FOR HELP.

If you are having trouble with your MFA in any way, follow these steps below exactly:

1. Send an email to AS_IT@kctcs.edu (as_IT@kctcs.edu)

a. Make the subject line: “MFA Reset”

b. You may use your high school email address to send this email.

c.  Include your full name—your legal name which would be in our system, not nicknames if you go by one.

d. Include your username.  This is your first initial, last name, and four numbers you were assigned when you set up your account. For example, asmith0000.

                                                              i.      Do not include your ID—they cannot look you up with your ID.

ii.      DO NOT include your password—you should never share this by email.

e. Include a screenshot if you can, of the issue.  If you cannot send a screenshot, explain what has happened.

If you do not know your username, use this process to retrieve it:

1. Go to this link  User Account Center (kctcs.edu)

2. Use your ID number to either Setup your User Profile or Reset your Password—during this process it should show you your username.

3. Save your username where you can retrieve it later and go back to the top and follow directions to send email for assistance.

If you are resetting your MFA and need to use an email, but that option is not showing:

1. Choose the phone option, and use an office phone, home phone, or a someone else’s phone temporarily.

2. Complete the process and test the code retrieval with the temporary phone number.

3. Assuming that works, go back to add another option to your MFA.  The email option should show now that you’ve had success with the phone option.

4. Select email, put your email in, and delete the temporary phone number as one of your retrieval options.

5. If the email option does not appear after you try this above, take a screenshot and follow the directions at the top for emailing the IT department at ACTC.
