American Medical student Association (AMSA)
The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training in the United States. Founded in 1950, AMSA is committed to improving health care and health equity through physician leadership, advocacy, education, and service. Built on the pillars of social justice, global health, public health, and professional integrity, AMSA empowers medical students to become not only excellent clinicians—but also compassionate advocates and changemakers. AMSA provides members with national advocacy opportunities, leadership development, mentorship networks, research collaborations, conferences, and access to exclusive educational programming. From health policy reform and reproductive justice to climate health and global outreach, AMSA equips students with the tools to engage meaningfully in the issues shaping modern medicine. The AMSA - ACSOM Chapter extends this mission locally within our vibrant and diverse medical student community. Located in the Caribbean, our chapter uniquely blends global perspective with community engagement. We organize advocacy campaigns, professional development workshops, and collaborative events that strengthen both clinical insight and leadership skills. Our chapter also creates opportunities for students to network with peers across institutions, engage in public health initiatives relevant to the Caribbean region, and build a strong foundation in physician advocacy early in their training. Membership in AMSA means joining a supportive, motivated community of future physicians who are passionate about service and systemic change. Whether your interests lie in policy, research, community medicine, global health, or leadership, AMSA provides a platform to grow your voice and expand your impact. We invite you to be part of a movement that goes beyond textbooks and exams—one that prepares you to shape the future of medicine. Join AMSA @ACSOM and lead with purpose.

Mindfulness in Medicine is a club aiming to support ACSOM’s current student body through group learning and mental health awareness. Given the challenges we take on as medical students, the vitality of learning healthy coping mechanisms and lifestyle choices is essential for protecting our mental health and fostering long-term resilience. With new research correlating emotional turmoil with hormonal changes, metabolic dysfunction, and varying mental complications, there is a newfound importance for learning self-care. Stress can manifest as very real, physical conditions. Mindfulness in Medicine pursues healthier mechanisms to use throughout their medical school years and beyond. Through team building group sessions, mindfulness activities, lessons on coping mechanisms from mental health professionals, and advice towards a healthy lifestyle to support cognitive function, students can learn to manage high stress environments in a positive way. Learning to support ourselves as future physicians can allow us to best serve our community and upkeep our own health as our oath promises.
The Movement is Medicine (MIM) club fills a gap in ACSOM’s current extracurricular options; a stress free recreational environment where medical students can counterbalance academic rigor with the endorphins of exercise! While we learn extensively about ideal health within the body - emphasizing the benefits of movement and mindfulness - we spend the majority of our time sitting in our favorite chairs! Medical education is often presented as something students have to sacrifice every other aspect of their lives for. There was a time and a world in which that was feasible while still maintaining personal wellbeing, but that is long in the past. Medicine now understands more about the insidious effects of long term stress on the human body. It’s no doubt that physicians spend decades under enormous amounts of stress both as they train and practice. MIM will promote a sense of respect for mental wellbeing alongside the sacrifices already so widely accepted.

OBGYN Specialty Interest Group
Women’s health is a beautiful and often underappreciated area of medicine. We believe this stems from misconceptions about the breadth and importance of what women’s health truly encompasses. Our goal is to ignite your curiosity and enthusiasm as we explore this vast field—from life’s first cry to the final chapter. Together, we’ll delve into topics such as reproductive care, contraceptives, reproductive endocrinology, and obstetric care, including the management of uncomplicated and high-risk pregnancies as well as obstetric emergencies. Beyond discussions, we’ll offer hands-on workshops on essential examination and procedural techniques, including ultrasound, suturing, and more. We can’t wait to embark on this journey with you and hope to share our passion for women’s health in a way that inspires you as much as it inspires us!

By combining a comprehensive orientation program with a dynamic Student Ambassador Program, we aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment that empowers all students to succeed academically and socially. This program is designed to provide new students with the information, resources, and support they need to thrive during their time at our institution. The Student Ambassador Program is also designed to empower current students to guide and support new students throughout their first year.
Surgery Club exists to open the doors to the world of surgery for students who are curious, driven, and ready to explore what life in the operating room truly looks like. Our purpose is to introduce members to the field in a hands-on, practical way, while also creating space for meaningful conversations about what it actually means to become a surgeon. Through structured workshops, members will learn foundational technical skills such as suturing and proper sterile technique, including how to scrub in correctly and understand the flow of the operating room. We will host discussions with practicing surgeons across specialties, giving students direct insight into training pathways, daily realities, challenges, and rewards within the field. This club is not just about skills. It is about exposure, mentorship, and confidence. From your first response in a clinical setting to the moment a surgeon takes over in the operating room, we aim to help students see the full arc of surgical care and envision themselves within it.
