Important Forms, Links, and Handbooks/Guidelines
Student Handbook
This handbook serves as your compass through ACSOM. It is designed to provide you with essential information, guidelines, and resources to navigate your academic, clinical, and personal experiences during your medical school journey. Within these pages, you will find details on curriculum, policies, procedures, and support services that will help you succeed in our learning community.
While the procedures and policies in the ACSOM Student Handbook reflect the most current practices of the American Canadian School of Medicine, they are subject to change. ACSOM reserves the right to modify or revise policies, procedures, curriculum, course offerings, academic standards, and tuition schedules at any time. Students will be notified of such changes via official ACSOM email communication, and updated policies will be reflected in the published edition of the Student Handbook.
Student Health Insurance Page
Student health insurance is mandatory for all students except for citizens of Dominica during study on the island of Dominica. However, students from Dominica may choose to purchase student health insurance coverage during pre-clerkship study in Dominica by completing the Student Health Insurance Opt-In Form - Dominica Citizens Only. All students, including Dominica citizens, will be required to use the ACSOM Student Health Insurance during the clerkship semesters. We are exploring best value health insurance for students, incorporating the feedback you provide in the survey.
Student Disability Services
Students seeking accommodations or disability support services at ACSOM are required to register with Student Disability Services (SDS). A history of accommodations, or lack thereof, does not necessarily predict the provision of accommodations here at ACSOM. Additionally, any accommodations received at ACSOM does not predict the provision of accommodations on US Licensing exams.
Student Corner - Student Support Services
This page is designed to provide you with a one-stop shop for all the information you need to navigate student life at the American Canadian School of Medicine during your time in Dominica. You can find information on everything from Newsletters, Events, and Complaint Processes.
Leave of Absence Request
Any student anticipating being unable to attend and fulfil all course requirements for longer than
ten working days or 25% of the length of a module, must apply for LOA.
Official details related to an LOA may be found in the Student Handbook.
Official Withdrawal Request
All students intending to officially withdraw from American School of Medicine (ACSOM) must complete this form after discussing their decision with the Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs.

FERPA Release Form
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights concerning the privacy of, and access to,
their education records.
Formal Complaint Form
ACSOM is committed to supporting students concerns and needs and welcome communication to address them appropriately. Please know that after you complete and submit this form, a review process begins with the aim of appropriately resolving an issue, disagreement, or misunderstanding. When practicable and safe for you to do so, you are encouraged to address issues at the source, which is a professional development opportunity. We assume you have already engaged in this activity and in no way discourage you from submitting a formal concern.
