Open projects for B.Sc. student

The projects defined in this section are based on a real problem. The method of execution and implementation of these projects are creative and can be different based on the ability of students.

These projects have a high potential for practical implementation and there is also the possibility of extracting articles from them.

Students can choose from these projects based on their personal interests or even present the project implementation method based on their ideas and knowledge in the form of a proposal.

Surgeon and operating room staff consciousness monitoring system based on infrared spectroscopy for medical errors reduction

It is necessary to monitor consciousness online to reduce medical errors by the nurse or physician. In reduced consciousness due to fatigue or long-term works, the essential warning should be given. Therefore, it is necessary to build a device that can do such work with high speed and accuracy and, at the same time, has easy use.

In this project measures the state of consciousness by measuring the brain's LPFC region's hemodynamic response, which is related to the forehead's anterior part, and issues a warning if there is a decrease in consciousness.

Automated GPS spoofing attack detection systems based on Intelligent methods in power system

Power systems are among the most significant and most critical cyber-physical infrastructures, and their dependency on cyber technologies has been grown significantly in recent years. A phasor measurement unit (PMU) is vulnerable to GPS spoofing attacks. An adversary may generate fake GPS signals to disturb the GPS of a PMU. It changes some PMU data. In this project, an artificial intelligence-based method that trains neural networks (NN) is presented to detect GPS spoofing attacks on the PMUs and estimate the corrected PMU data. The proposed structure can be used in various power grid conditions, such as load changes in the grid, in the presence of noise, and multi GSA on PMUs.

Transformer Oil Quality Assessment System Based on Internet of Things in Power Grid

Transformers are one of the most critical components of the power grid. Most power substation has laboratories to analysis the transformer oil. They are periodically sending transformer oil samples to the laboratory and classify oils with different aging. In this process, it is necessary to shut down the electrical power of the local grid.

This project is developing an IoT device to analyze the transformer oil without shutting down the grid. By creating this device, the oil sampling and analysis process is done automatically and no longer need to cut off the grid. (Link)

Manufacturing a hardware simulator to synchronize PMU data and send it to control center

In this research, a system similar to the performance of a PMU device and its relationship to a control center is designed, which consists of hardware and software parts. This system, similar to the PMU, receives GPS data and extracts the time accurately in microseconds and adds them to the phasor data measured from the power system in a timestamp. It then sends the prepared data to a control center via wifi connection. In the Control Center section, an application designed to receive and display PMU data. This app has the ability to counteract with GPS spoofing attacks. For this aim, the phase is extracted from instantaneous data and through the designed anti-GPS spoofing algorithms are evaluated, attacks are detected and PMU data under attack are corrected.
