Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)
Made up mostly of parents of children with disabilities, SEAC is a school board advisory committee required by the state. List of school representatives is available on their website. They meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the evening in the central office building. Meetings are open to the public for viewing, and public comment can be made in-person or sent via email to: spedhelp@k12albemarle.org.
SEAC members have an At-Large seat on Family Council to help us stay in touch. If you can't reach a SEAC school representative, try these people or reach out to the Chair of SEAC: seac.albemarle@gmail.com
Collaboration between SEAC and Family Council has focused on multiple partnerships with the UVA Law School Community Clinic led by faculty Sarah Shalf called the Community Organization and Social Enterprise Clinic. Projects have included:
2023-24: Organizational ByLaws and Processes
2024-25: Access to Disability Evaluations
2025-26: Disproportionate Discipline for Students with Disabilities
Resources provided by SEAC:
Piedmont Regional Education Program, Parent Resource Center. Tip: Contact Stephanie Hicks (free), a former ACPS parent who is assigned to support families in ACPS trying to navigate the special education system.
