Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after a person experiences or witnesses a traumatic event. Traumatic events may include serious accidents, natural disasters, physical or sexual assault, combat or other life-threatening situations. PTSD can affect daily functioning, relationships and overall well-being.
Can PTSD be cured?
PTSD is treatable, often through therapy, support and sometimes medication. Early recognition and intervention can help people manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
A PTSD assessment involves taking a detailed history of trauma, evaluating symptoms against the DSM-V, assessing functional impact using standardised questionnaires, considering collateral information and producing a diagnosis with treatment or legal recommendations.
We understand that an assessment for PTSD can be daunting for some people. Here at ACPAS we want you to feel comfortable and safe and our friendly staff are here to put you at ease as much as they can.
