UIUC Study Abroad Application:
When is the travel itinerary due and is it required?
The travel itinerary is not due until after you have been accepted by your host institution and cleared to book your travel.
Where do I find the Commitment of Participation form and budget sheet?
Both of these can be found in your the documents section on My Study Abroad platform where you applied.
Where is the documents section located in my application?
The documents section can be found on the top menu bar of the application home page of the online study abroad system.
Course Approval Forms:
Can I change the courses on my course approval form?
Yes, a lot of students decide to take a different course once they begin registering at their host university. You will need to obtain a syllabus and email the departmental study abroad course advisor to request a new course be articulated as a Gen Ed, elective or major equivalent course. Any course not in the course database will default to ACES 1-- credit (or the equivalent in your home college).
The course approval form says it needs to be signed by an advisor. Who should sign my form?
Your major Academic Advisor
What will (insert class) transfer as?
Refer to the course database. If the course is not listed, you can submit the syllabus for review to the Study Abroad Course Advisor in the department that you would like credit or it will default to ACES 1-- (or the equivalent in your home college).
Host University:
What are the dates for my program?
They can be found on your host institution's website and will be shared when you receive the official acceptance from your host institution. Do not order airline tickets until you hear the exact dates directly from the university where you will be studying abroad and are aware of the orientation date.
What is the difference between program dates and itinerary dates?
Program dates are provided by the Host University and indicate the dates your program starts and finishes. You should arrive to your program destination on or before the start date provided. Itinerary dates include the period of time the student has health insurance provided by the University. Students should not book flights based on the itinerary dates.
I have not received my application e-mail from my host university. What do I do?
Depending on your program, the host university may not e-mail your application information immediately. Our office is usually copied on all of those e-mails and you should check with us.
My host university requires a letter of recommendation. I already supplied one. Do I need to supply a new letter to my host university?
We cannot send the letter of recommendation directly to you but we can send it to your host university. If you would like for us to do that, e-mail aces-studyabroad@illinois.edu and ask to forward the letter for you.
When are classes going to be available or when can I register?
Refer to the information and instructions provided by your host institution. If you have more specific questions, email our counterpart at the university where you will be studying abroad. You can find the persons contact information on your acceptance materials or we can provide it to you.
