Ted Kuhlenschmidt Service Award: Inspired by the life of Ted Kuhlenschmidt, who donated countless hours to the school while living with cancer, the senior class of 2008 founded the Ted Kuhlenschmidt Service Award to honor Ted's life, memory, and unconditional dedication to the school. This scholarship rewards students who, like Ted, have given so much to that in which they believe, even despite difficult circumstances. Along with the award comes a $1500 scholarship.
Laurel Szorcsik Heart of Signature Award: This award was founded in memory of Signature School graduate, Laurel Szorcsik, who battled cancer throughout her senior year at Sig (Class of 2016). This award recognizes students who embody the heart of Signature School as demonstrated by their commitment to their schoolwork and community service and by their compassion and love for others. Along with the award comes a $1500 scholarship.
Major General Eric H. Schwenker Award: This award was founded in memory of Major General Eric H. Schwenker. Father of former Signature History teacher, Susie Kuhlenschmidt (and father-in-law to devoted Sig volunteer, Ted Kuhlenschmidt), Eric began volunteering at Signature at the age of 80 and continued his service until age 97. Eric exemplified “The Signature Way”. This award recognizes a student who has demonstrated some or all of the following: outstanding citizenship, a commitment to giving back, an interest in STEM-related fields, and an interest in the military or military-related careers. Along with the award comes a $1500 scholarship.
