FAFSA troubles? Attend College Goal Sunday, February 23, at Ivy Tech, 2-4. Attendees who complete the appropriate paperwork will be entered into a drawing to receive one of five $1000 scholarships.

Is your Early Action application deferred to Regular Decision? Be sure to update the school with a letter of continued interest (tips here) and with any news about your academic or leadership record.

Competitions and Programs by Deadline
Indiana State Library Letters about Literature Contest submissions are due January 21.
Students are asked to read a book, poem, essay, or speech and write to the author (living or deceased) about how the work affected how they see themselves or how they see the world.
Cash prizes and tons of honor go to winning entries.
New Catapult, a selective, paid summer internship wherein students learn coding fundamentals and develop workplace and teamwork skills; June 2-July 2, 9-4 each day, with additional experiences throughout the 2025-26 school year; application closes on February 6; candidate interviews take place February 21-25. MathWorks Math Modeling Challenge registration open!
Many prizes for finalist teams, including a trip to NYC.
Each school team consists of 3-5 students with a coach (minimal role). Only open to juniors and seniors.
Teams must request their free MATLAB license by February 16.
Registration closes on February 21, at 4 PM.
Bill of Rights Institute MyImpact Challenge submissions are due May 18.
Civic engagement contest that rewards student service projects with cash prizes of up to $10,000.
Send a project report of up to 2000 words, an essay of up to 1200 words on how your project upholds one civic virtue and one founding principle, and photo or video documentation.
Entries may be from groups of up to 5 or from individuals. Winning group entries split the prize money.

The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship is due January 31, 2025.
Up to $10,000 per year for students who plan to teach in Indiana 5 years or more

Vanderburgh County Community Foundation Scholarship Programs, most deadlines January 31, amounts vary, some notable ones below:
Alfred Savia Distinguished Young Artist Award, $750 awarded to an EPYO member with a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5,1/20 deadline;
Allison Tenbarge Criminal Justice Scholarship, monetary award (TBD) to a female, minimum unweighted GPA of 2.0, planning a career in criminal justice or law enforcement, 1/20 deadline;
Cassin-David Scholarship, $1490 awarded to a senior with a MAXIMUM unweighted GPA of 3.4, planning to attend college, and demonstrating moral character, integrity, and community-mindedness, 1/20 deadline;
Clarence and Dorothy Gerard Scholarship for Nursing, $11,160 awarded to a graduating senior, renewable at a possibly different amount up to 4 years, minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0, planning to pursue a nursing degree at an institution in southern Indiana, 1/20 deadline;
Dahni Jo Memorial Scholarship, 2 $1,000 awards to two seniors with a minimum unweighted GPA of a 3.0, planning to pursue a major in veterinary/animal science, zoology, or a related field, 1/20 deadline;
Dorothy Rapp Music Scholarship, $1,160 awarded to an active member of any Evansville Baptist church who plans to pursue education or development of music skills, 1/20 deadline;
Gray Farms Presidents Scholarship application due February 1, two $1000 scholarships to two high seniors with an unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above, 1/20 deadline.
Greater Evansville USBCA Scholarship, $1,390 awarded to a senior, minimum GPA of 2.0, who is a member or whose parent is a member of the USBCA, and who demonstrates involvement in bowling and community service, 1/20 deadline;
Harry A. Logan Fire Service Scholarship, $1,600 awarded to a senior, minimum UW GPA of 2.75, planning to major in Fire Services or related field, preference given to those with financial need and/or those with a family history of firefighting, 1/20 deadline;
Legacy Scholarship, $620 awarded to a senior, minimum UW GPA of 2.5, who reside in Vanderburgh county and who will be first-generation college students, 1/20 deadline;
Jeremy Weil Memorial Art Scholarship, $810 awarded to a senior who has completed at least 3 full years of high school art classes and who plans to enroll in art training after high school, 1/20 deadline;
Lois and Betty Hamburg UE Scholarship, 2 $5,100 awards to 2 seniors planning to pusue a UE education, preference given to those who demonstrate financial need, 1/20 deadline;
Lois and Betty Hamburg USI Scholarship, 2 $5,590 awards to 2 seniors planning to pusue a USI education, preference given to those who demonstrate financial need, 1/20 deadline;
Lori O'Banion Memorial Scholarship, $1,540 awarded to a senior, minimum UW GPA of 2.5, who has suffered the loss of a parent, and who plans to attend college, 1/20 deadline;
Manny Heaton Memorial Scholarship, $2,000 awarded to a senior, minimum UW GPA of 2.0, who is a dependent of a current Toyota Motor Manufacturing (TMMI) employee, 1/20 deadline;
Melba Jean Racener Scholarship, renewable $2550 award to a senior with a minimum UW GPA of 3.0, planning to pursue advertising, marketing, communications, or a related field, deadline unclear so assume 1/20;
Project Associates Engineering Scholarship, $2,750 awarded to a senior accepted at USI or UE and enrolled as an engineering major, deadline 1/20;
Russ Mason Memorial Golf Scholarship, $1360 awarded to a senior planning to play college golf, 1/20 deadline;
Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Associate Scholarship, $2650 awarded to a senior with a miniumum UW GPA of 2.65 planning to major in horticulture, botany, landscape architecture, or a related field; financial need will be prioritized in the selection process;
Thomas F. Walls Youth Hockey Scholarship, $620 awarded to a senior with a minimum UW GPA of 3.0 who has participated in an IHSAA-sanctioned sport, preference given to a participant in the Evansville Youth Hockey Association, 1/20 deadline.
The Westside Improvement Association (WIA) scholarship is due Feb. 1.

Foundation 649 Scholarship for Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders application due March 1 ($4000 over 4 years). Must demonstrate financial need.
Diamond Valley Federal Credit Union 2024 Scholarship application deadline is March 1.

Requires 2 recs, only 1 from a teacher or counselor, an essay, and a copy of your Student Aid Report (FAFSA)
10 nonrenewable $1000 scholarships offered
Horatio Alger Targeted Scholarships open December 1 and are due March 1 for students with families earning adjusted gross income of $65,000 or lower. There are many scholarships here, some to specific universities and some that may be applied to various schools.
Liberty Federal Credit Union Ted Hitch Scholarship application must be RECEIVED by March 7:
Applicant or guardian must be a member of LFCU for at least 18 months, and members must use at least 3 LFCU services (see Section 1 of the application);
10 awards of $5,000.
National Panhellinic Centennial Scholarship application due March 9, intended for women planning on joining a sorority. 10 $2000 scholarships available.
The Westside Improvement Association (WIA) scholarship is due Feb. 1.

Indiana Oil and Gas Association Scholarship application due April 1
Amounts vary, but multiple awards were distributed in 2024, from $7500 to $500.

Bally's Evansville Project 21 Scholarship Program for 2025 due April 4
3 $2,000 nonrenewable scholarships awarded to the winning poster, essay, or video submission on the subject of deterring underage gambling
Considering a career in mental health? Do you have a record of of advocating for progress and social change regarding bullying and harassment? The one-time $1900 Ryan Yebba Memorial Mental Health Scholarship application is due May 10.

Admitted to IU-Indy? Consider applying by February 15 for the Pitch Your Passion student competition. Two winners will be awarded a Thomasson Scholarship covering 4 years of tuition, fees, room and board, books, and a semester abroad. Partial scholarships will also be awarded. Eligible students are planning to major in Philanthropic Leadership. A nomination is not required, but is allowed. Let Ms. Hughes know today if you'd like to be nominated.
