Payment for any and all services rendered is due no later than the date of service. For home education students, fees are due at the beginning of the school week. For all students, a grace period may be offered of up to one day, however any payments not made will accrue a late fee of $5/day for each late transaction. For those who prefer to be billed less often, prepayment may be made, and I can bill against that and notify you when the amount is depleted.
Please notify as far in advance as possible about expected absences. Same day cancellations will need to be charged. Some exceptions may be made for illnesses, however the expectation is still that you will indicate an illness-related absence as soon as possible so that the time slot may be filled by others who may be waiting.
If your student is ill, they will not be allowed to attend in person; however if they feel functional enough to meet virtually, they may do so. This is true for both tutoring and home education students. If your student is very ill, please let them rest.
During peak ailment seasons, I may require mask wearing for students attending in person. This is not negotiable, however breaks may be taken as needed for personal comfort in designated areas.
Academia Tutoring & Home Education is a small business. As a sole proprietor, my tax rates are much higher than for traditionally employed people. My work does not come with any vacation pay, healthcare benefits, a 401(k), or other perks associated with many jobs. At times I will be flexible about my policies regarding late fees and charging for absences, however this is my only source of income, and I am by no means wealthy, so this flexibility is entirely at my discretion. The services I offer are customized, dynamic, and very broad in scope. I have worked very hard to develop the work that I do, and I am doing it alone as a person with multiple disabilities. If you would like to challenge my policies, you may feel free to do so, but please be aware first of your privileges.
Additionally, all of my clients are accorded respect and are treated as individuals. If a student is uncomfortable in their seat, needs to use the bathroom, or requires a fidget or some other accommodation when working with me, they are allowed freedom of movement so long as they endeavor to remain focused on the tasks at hand. When in a group setting, I will ask students to be mindful of how their actions may be impacting those around them. Flexibility and thoughtfulness are two very important elements that I emphasize in addition to dedication to learning.
