Dzitse Selasie is a highly skilled wildlife biologist and researcher with a deep expertise in avian conservation and wildlife management. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Wildlife and Range Management at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where his research focuses on the conservation biology of the Northern Ground-Hornbill (Bucorvus abyssinicus). Selasie’s work is at the cutting edge of wildlife telemetry, avian genetics, and landscape ecology, contributing essential insights to the preservation of these vulnerable species in Ghana’s protected areas.
With a strong academic background that includes an M.Phil. in Wildlife Management from the University of Cape Coast and a BSc in Entomology and Wildlife, Selasie brings a wealth of experience to his research. He has conducted extensive fieldwork, including a major project on the distribution and abundance of hornbills in Southern Ghana, and has published his findings in respected scientific journals. As the lead researcher, he is responsible for driving key conservation efforts and producing data that will inform future strategies for protecting hornbill populations in Ghana and beyond.
Beyond academia, Selasie is an active member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Species Survival Commission, specifically the Hornbill Specialist Group. His passion for wildlife conservation extends into community engagement, where he serves as an assessor and examiner for several educational institutions in Ghana. His work is making significant contributions to both local and global efforts to protect avian species and their habitats.
